General
What is oxidative stress?
Oxidative stress occurs when there is an imbalance between free radicals (reactive oxygen species) and antioxidants in the body. Excess free radicals can damage cells, proteins, and DNA, contributing to aging and diseases like cancer, diabetes, and neurodegenerative disorders. Antioxidants help neutralize free radicals, maintaining cellular health and reducing oxidative damage.
What's the difference between Activation and Supplementation?
Activation involves stimulating the body’s natural processes, such as activating genes to produce antioxidants or repair mechanisms. Supplementation, on the other hand, provides external nutrients (e.g., vitamins, minerals) to support bodily functions. Activation enhances the body’s innate abilities, while supplementation supplies what the body may lack or need in higher amounts.
What is mitochondrial dysfunction?
Mitochondrial dysfunction occurs when mitochondria, the cell’s energy producers, fail to function properly. This can lead to reduced energy (ATP) production, increased oxidative stress, and cell damage. It is linked to aging and diseases like neurodegeneration, diabetes, and cancer. Causes include genetic mutations, toxins, and chronic stress on cellular systems.
What is Nutrigenomics?
Nutrigenomics is the study of how nutrition interacts with genes to influence health and disease. It explores how specific nutrients affect gene expression and how genetic variations impact nutrient metabolism. This field aims to personalize diets based on genetic profiles, optimizing health, preventing diseases, and improving overall well-being through tailored nutrition.
